The Magic of the San Francisco Decorator Showcase
There are certain events in the design world that have more impact than just design itself — events that inspire creativity, celebrate artistry, and bring people together.
The San Francisco Decorator Showcase is one of those events.
Now in its 47th year, the Showcase has become one of the most iconic design events in the Bay Area, calling on some of the industry’s most talented interior and landscape designers to completely transform an incredible home — all while supporting an important cause.
For us, this year feels especially meaningful.
Not only because we get to experience such an inspiring design event, but because it also brings me back to the area where I grew up. There’s something surreal about returning to a place filled with memories while also viewing it through the lens of creativity, design, and inspiration.
It feels both nostalgic and exciting at the same time.
More Than Just Beautiful Rooms
What makes the San Francisco Decorator Showcase so special is that it’s not simply about trends or aesthetics.
It’s about storytelling.
Every room reflects a different perspective, personality, and artistic vision. Designers are given the opportunity to completely reimagine spaces, often pushing creative boundaries in ways that feel innovative yet deeply personal.
Walking through the Showcase feels less like touring a house and more like stepping into multiple worlds under one roof. Even better, is the opportunity we have to speak to the designers who are present explaining their inspiration, their vision, their reason for their selections and the story behind the interpretation.
One room may feel moody and dramatic.
Another calm and organic.
Another layered with color, texture, and vintage influence.
And somehow, each space stands on its own while still contributing to the overall experience of the home.
Why Events Like This Matter
In today’s digital world, so much of design inspiration happens online. We scroll through perfectly curated photos, save Pinterest boards, and consume endless content through screens.
But there is something irreplaceable about experiencing design in person.
Seeing how light moves through a room.
Noticing the texture of materials up close.
Experiencing scale, atmosphere, and emotion firsthand.
These events remind us that great design is meant to be felt, not just photographed.
For designers especially, these experiences refill the creative cup. They challenge us to think differently, experiment more boldly, and continue evolving our own design perspectives.
Design With Purpose
Another reason the San Francisco Decorator Showcase has remained so beloved for nearly five decades is because it blends creativity with purpose.
Beyond the beauty and inspiration, the event supports charitable initiatives throughout the community — proving that design can have impact far beyond the walls of a home.
The Showcase benefits the San Francisco University High School Financial Aid Program, helping provide educational opportunities and tuition assistance for students. Over the years, the event has raised millions of dollars, turning the design community’s creativity into something that creates real, lasting impact.
And that’s what makes the event feel so much bigger than interiors alone.
It’s a reminder that design has the ability to bring people together — designers, artists, vendors, local businesses, and visitors alike — all contributing to something meaningful. Every thoughtfully designed room becomes part of a larger purpose.
While guests leave inspired by the architecture, furnishings, and creativity, they also leave knowing the event is helping support future students, opportunities, and education within the community.
That combination of artistry, collaboration, and giving back is part of what has made the Showcase such an iconic Bay Area tradition for 47 years.
A Personal Note
Being back in the Bay Area — surrounded by familiar architecture, neighborhoods, and memories — while attending one of the most celebrated design events in the region feels deeply inspiring.
There’s something special about revisiting the place where your appreciation for art and design first began and seeing it now through a completely different perspective.
As interior designers, experiences like this remind us why we fell in love with design in the first place.
The creativity.
The storytelling.
The emotion behind a space.
And honestly, San Francisco’s rich history, culture and architecture makes it one of the best places to be.
